Day 1 - Arrival & Susukino

Susukino

Sapporo's nightlife district. Izakayas, neon and ramen alleys. Classic first-night walk.

Day 2 - Sapporo City Core

Odori Park

Long central park cutting through Sapporo. Nice for strolling between sights.

Sapporo TV Tower

Retro 1957 tower with city views from the observation deck.

Tanukikoji Shopping Street

Covered shopping arcade running seven blocks. Souvenirs, sweets and rain shelter.

Day 3 - Otaru Day Trip

Otaru Canal

Old merchant canal lined with gas lamps and warehouses turned into shops and seafood spots. Half-day from Sapporo.

Day 4 - Mt. Moiwa Sunset

Mt. Moiwa Ropeway

Ropeway up Mt. Moiwa for Sapporo's best sunset view. Free shuttle bus after 5pm on weekdays, from 10am on weekends.

Day 5 - Nijo Market & Free Day

Nijo Market

Sapporo's seafood market. Grab a kaisendon breakfast with uni, ikura and Hokkaido crab.

Day 6 - Tokyo Arrival & Shinjuku

Omoide Yokocho

Tiny yakitori alley by Shinjuku station. Smoky, narrow and pure 1960s Tokyo atmosphere.

Day 7 - Asakusa & Ueno

Senso-ji

Tokyo's oldest temple. Best visited late afternoon or evening when the crowds thin and the lanterns light up.

Nakamise Shopping Street

Approach street to Senso-ji lined with snack stalls. Ningyo-yaki, melonpan and fresh agemanju.

Ueno Park

Huge park with shrines, a zoo and nine museums. Pick a museum in advance, you can easily lose a whole day here.

Tokyo National Museum

Japan's largest museum, inside Ueno Park. Strong samurai and ukiyo-e collections.

Day 8 - Meiji, Harajuku & Shibuya

Meiji Shrine

Forested Shinto shrine dedicated to Emperor Meiji. Surprisingly quiet, nice transition from Harajuku.

Takeshita Street

Harajuku's youth fashion street. Crepes, trinket shops and colorful crowds.

Shibuya Crossing

The famous scramble intersection. Best views from Mag's Park rooftop, Shibuya Sky or the Tsutaya Starbucks.

Day 9 - teamLab & Odaiba

teamLab Planets Tokyo

Immersive digital art where you walk barefoot through water and mirrors. Book tickets well in advance.

Odaiba Seaside Park

Artificial beach on Tokyo Bay with Rainbow Bridge views. Pair with teamLab Planets on the same day.

Day 10 - Sumo & Vintage Shopping

Ryogoku Kokugikan

Sumo's holiest arena. May basho tickets sell out fast. If you miss them, try Klook guided sumo experiences with guaranteed seats.

Nakano Broadway

Vintage paradise. Jackroad for watches, floors of manga, cameras and retro goods. Calmer than Akihabara.

Day 11 - Ghibli Museum

Ghibli Museum

Miyazaki's dreamy museum in Mitaka. Tickets go on sale a month in advance and sell out within hours.

Onsen Detour (Tokyo → Kyoto)

Nishiyama Onsen Keiunkan

Guinness-certified oldest hotel in the world, founded 705 AD. Private kashikiri baths, mountain setting. Ideal onsen detour between Tokyo and Kyoto.

Minobusan Kuonji Temple

Head temple of Nichiren Buddhism perched on Mt. Minobu. Pairs nicely with the Nishiyama Onsen detour.

Day 12 - Kyoto Arrival & Gion

Gion

Kyoto's historic geisha district. Wander Hanamikoji at dusk. No photos of geiko on the private side streets, please.

Day 13 - Fushimi & Higashiyama

Fushimi Inari Taisha

Endless vermillion torii gates up Mount Inari. Be there before 7am to have the main path almost to yourself.

Kiyomizu-dera

Hillside temple with the iconic wooden stage. Great city views, pair with Sannenzaka on the walk up.

Sannenzaka

Preserved Edo-period sloped streets leading up to Kiyomizu-dera. Wooden houses, matcha sweets and one of Kyoto's prettiest walks.

Day 14 - Arashiyama

Arashiyama Bamboo Forest

Iconic bamboo grove. Go at 7am or forget it, by 9am it's packed with selfie sticks.

Iwatayama Monkey Park

Short uphill hike to a panoramic viewpoint with free-roaming macaques. Unbeatable city view, often overlooked.

Togetsukyo Bridge

The Moon Crossing Bridge over the Hozu River. Classic Arashiyama starting point, photogenic year-round.

Day 16 - Osaka Arrival & Dotonbori

Dotonbori

Osaka's neon food street. Takoyaki, kushikatsu, okonomiyaki and the glowing Glico sign.

Day 17 - Himeji Day Trip

Himeji Castle

Japan's finest surviving feudal castle. Original keep, pristine white walls. Far more impressive than Osaka Castle's concrete rebuild.

Day 18 - Universal Studios

Universal Studios Japan

Home of Super Nintendo World and Mario Kart: Koopa's Challenge. Arrive at rope drop, the area fills up fast.

Day 19 - Nara Day Trip

Nara Park

Famous deer park. Hide your shika senbei until you're ready to feed or they'll mob you.

Todai-ji

Houses the world's largest bronze Buddha inside Japan's largest wooden building. A must in Nara.

Day 20 - Shinsaibashi Shopping

Shinsaibashi Shopping Street

Long covered arcade packed with fashion, beauty and brand stores. Connects directly to Dotonbori for food.

Day 21 - Okinawa Arrival & Naha

Kokusai Street

Naha's main drag. Souvenirs, Okinawan snacks, Awamori tastings. Grab purple sweet potato tarts.

Day 22 - Kerama Islands

Zamami Island

Kerama Islands jewel. Ferry from Naha (about 50 min). Crystal clear water and some of Japan's best snorkeling.

Day 23 - Churaumi & Coastal Drive

Churaumi Aquarium

One of the best aquariums on earth. Whale sharks and manta rays in the massive Kuroshio tank. Plan 3 to 4 hours.

Cape Manzamo

Dramatic limestone cliff shaped like an elephant's trunk. Classic stop on the coastal drive north of Naha.

Emerald Beach

White sand beach right next to the Churaumi Aquarium. Perfect combo after visiting the whale sharks.
