Daikanbo Lookout

Panoramic view of the entire Aso caldera. Best in clear weather.

Aso Nakadake Crater

Active volcano crater. Bring gloves if climbing, rock scramble at the start.

Laputa Road

⚠️ Officially closed to vehicles and overgrown at the entrance, but still walkable on foot. It's a fun little adventure, not a real hike. Many people still go and the road itself is fine. Just don't try to drive it!

Sakurai Futamigaura

Day 1 - Fukuoka Arrival

Nakatsukasa Magotaro Inari Shrine

Maizuru Park

Fukuoka Castle ruins with nice views over the city.

Ohori Park

Large park with a lake, great for a relaxed walk after arrival.

Day 4 - Drive to Kurokawa Onsen

Tadewara Wetlands

Casual 1-hour scenic loop. Free parking, great restaurant at the visitor center.

Kuju Flower Park

Seasonal flower fields with Kuju mountain backdrop. Early October has autumn cosmos.

Kurokawa Onsen

Charming onsen village. Get the rotenburo tegata (bath-hopping pass) to try multiple ryokans.

Takasumi Shrine

Atmospheric shrine on Mount Hiko, nice stop on the drive to Kurokawa.

Day 5 - Aso Area

Kusasenri

草千里ヶ浜 You can go horse riding during the day here, but after 4 pm, the horses are let out to roam around the grassland freely, so you can enjoy watching them walk around and do their thing. Specialty Kagoshima tea farm shop. Perfect for tea shopping!

Udo Shrine

Dramatic cliffside shrine in a sea cave. Try throwing undama (lucky balls) at the rock.
